Summer of the Gun II?

July 30th 2012: Toronto’s shootings in 2012 are on a similar pace with the numbers of 2005’s deadly Summer of the Gun — even though Mayor Rob Ford said “this is the safest city in the world. So far this year, there have been 140 shootings in the city, up more than 30% from the 106 in 2011. And in 2012,

175 people have been wounded by gunfire, more than a 40% increase over the 124 who were shot last year. Over the last six weeks or so, bullets have been flying in the city almost daily and there have been numerous very public shootings.

The recent spate of violence touched off June 2 when a gunman opened fire in a crowded Eaton Centre food court, killing Nixon Nirmalendran, 22, and Ahmed Hassan, 24, and wounding five innocent bystanders, including a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head and narrowly survived.

Christopher Husbands, 23, is now facing two charges of first-degree murder. On June 18, there was the broad daylight execution of John Raposo, 35, at a cafe in Little Italy, which was teaming with Euro Cup soccer fans at the time. Then, on June 30, a two-year-old girl was shot in the leg as her family left a barbecue in North York.

Barely 24 hours later, a 21-year-old man was wounded by gunfire at Woodbine Beach where thousands of people had been watching a Canada Day fireworks display. Two weeks later, on July 16, gunfire erupted at an outdoor community barbecue on Danzig Street in Scarborough. A total of 25 people were shot, including the two who died – Shyanne Charles, 14, of Toronto and Joshua Yasay, 23, of Ajax and a 22-month-old who was grazed by a bullet. Another person was trampled. It’s been called the worst shooting in Toronto’s history. Nahom Tsegazab, 19, has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. He is not charged in relation to the homicides.

Blackz Dun Da Place joins Super Gold Sound

August 30th 2012: Breaking News; Just weeks after we learned about King Sharp joining King Turbo Sound, it’s now been announced that popular Toronto dee-jay Blackz Dun Da Place is now the new selector for Super Gold Sound. Blacks has been enjoying a solid juggling solo career since parting

ways with S-Man (Fully Loaded Sound) some years back before a short stunt with Lexus Supreme.  At the moment, Blackz is said to be gearing up for Fully Loaded (the clash) where he plans on destroying all sounds. Blackz is also clashing in the  US as Super Gold is an active sound based in America as well as Canada controlled by Goldteeth (US) and Fada Bass (Canada).  ReggaeMania will be speaking with Blackz Dun Da Placein the next several days so stay tuned for updates on this story.

Fully Loaded ReLoaded Cancelled for 2012

August 27th, 2012: It is with sadness that I announce to Canadian clash fans that this year’s Fully Loaded Re-Loaded Clash competition has been cancelled. Despite 20 sounds inquiring and expressing interest, only about 7 from the crop confirmed 100% by the September 25th deadline. For a variety of

reasons, the majority of sounds chose to pass on this year’s event, some saying they’ll be “ready” next year – others most likely just growing tired of (or out-growing) the Fully Loaded concept. So what it is is what it is – after reading the signs – I’ve made the decision to cancel this clash – and we’ll see what’s in store when Fully Loaded returns for 2013. Thank you to all the sounds who expressed interest in clashing – and sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to anyone.

King Klepto Exits from “Dead This Time” Soundclash

August 20th 2012: Ahhh yes….I did say that I was going to talk about this a while ago. Word on the street (Promoter has confirmed) is that King KLepto has dropped  out of this clash with Don Rankin Sound and Outcast! WtF??? Wha mek..? Polly, say it ain’t so…? Alot of clash fans were looking forward

Sept.8th, 2012—Dead This Time Soundclash—(Modern Warfare) King Klepto vs Don Rankin vs Outcast

to this clash for a long time seeing as how all (3) of these sounds have ‘history’ together…DonRankinSound has had numerous run-ins with KLepTo over the years (who remembers Photi (Futty) – Ranks from DR telling Polly that he would kick him with his ‘authentic’ Gucci boots? (lol) ..Fast forward a couple of years to the on-going semi-feud with Outcast and Don Rankin Sound that has played out in front of Toronto ‘clash fans’ many times this year…….

Now, just as the hype was building nicely for this clash….King KLepTo has pulled out for reasons that I have not been told of yet! Reggaemania, I will report back soon as to why KLepTo are actually out of this clash but in the mean time, we can all speculate…I was on another website/chatroom recently and was surprised at the comments being thrown around…Alot of fans seem to think that KLepTo are scared of a potential loss in T-Dot before they clash again in New York days later…I actually forgot that  clash’s lineup but I do know that King KLepTo and Innocent(from FLorida) are on that dance along with (1) other sound…( maybe Addies…don’t quote me though)….

But don’t worry RM..ProbLem ChiLd will find out ‘the problem’ here and why King KLepTo is not hoLding up their end of the bargain in giving Toronto (and the soundclash bizz in general) clash fans one the most anticipated clashes of the year….

P.S. this is an opinion/post that someone said on that ‘other’ website:

PENG said…”Yes, KLepTo run from this clash. From what I hear, they can’t afford a loss before they go to New York…and plus, Polly ‘fraid a Outcast, believe it or not. Not to mention DonRankin..don’t watch the big mouth Polly has, they has no tunes and they know other sounds are now equiped than they do. So for now, KLepTo run from the war. They have no tunes. They will come up with all the story in the book but  in the streets they running”(not MY words Polly(lol), I just took one post from off ”Stunna site)…….(also RM, that was verbatim, including all grammaticalallamp;spelling errors…lol..RM wouldn’t write that statement as such but we were trying our best  to be honest in re-writing the person’s(PENG) post…)

As I said Reggaemania.com, as soon as I find the promoter of this clash, I will report back as to the REAL reasons for Klepto’s absence from this clash………Outcast….Don Rankin…what you all gonna do now…..? Holla at me….let me (and RM) know so I can tell the peopLe your feelings about this news……Bless up RM

Rootsman Champions of 3-The Hard Way Soundclash in Montreal

August 18th 2012:  It was all about the 3 The Hard Way Soundclash (a Saint Best Ent Promo)  featuring 3 sounds clashing on the Friday (August 17th) night of the Montreal Reggae Festival  – Rootsman (Toronto) vs Little Thunder (Montreal) vs Showtime (NYC). The venue was packed, with an easy 300+

educated clash fans inside most of whom had paid $30 advance or $40 at the door for admission.  The year previous at the Montreal Reggae Festival, the same Friday night saw a clash featuring Jaro and Blackat.

The clash got underway at 130am, and featured a 20 minutes per sound, first round–(strictly dub plate) showdown. Little Thunder played 1st, Showtime 2nd, Rootsman 3rd

ROUND ONE (20 mins)

  • Little Thunder got forwards for their first few songs, but boiled down near the middle of the 20-min round, only getting a small handful of forwards between he halfway point and the time their round ended.  Some reports say that from the 7 minute mark and throughout the remainder of the round, Little Thunder were booed by the crowd, and the boos only got worse when the sound tried to cuss back the crowd

  • Showtime (NYC) got forwards in the start of their first round but the settled down to mere mortality.  The mic-talker was hard to understand, his speeches weren’t clear and he talked too fast despite claiming to be in the business for more than 12 years

  • Rootsman (Chucky and Ranger) started with Glen Washington (Rise allamp; Shine). After 2 or 3 dubs it was clear who the crowd favourite had become.  Rootsman was bussing the clash – some already saying “dance dun” – emphasized when they drew for Marcia Griffiths’ “Rootsman Is Gonna Kill You Tonight, No badda put up no fight”. The sound cruised through the round with riddims that includedFar East, Cuss Cuss, Kutchie and Real Rock. There were some singles selected featuring artists like Busy Signal, Beenie Man, I-Octane, that also helped lead the dance. For a 20-minute round,  at least 75% of it were pure forwards!

ROUND TWO (15mins)

  • Little Thunder was wicked in Round 2 – with tunes cut to counter act everything. They had a big Mavado dub cut to counter act the Rootsman Bounty Killer.  They had new I-Octane, new Khago, many cut on original riddims. The held their own in Round 2, coming hard with very hard tunes

  • Showtime switched their MC for Round 2 – initially a welcomed move by the clash critics.  Skinny was okay, but the replacement MC was better, and had more control over the crowd while working hard to earn more forwards. Showtime got what will be remembered as one of the biggest forwards of the night when then dropped Pinchers (Bandeleroo).  Ironincally, it was one of those cases where the forward came despite the tune not playing – just a tiny bit of the start of the riddim was all that was needed to turn over the place! The boos went away for the most part, although not completely.  It was apparent that people like Showtime, they just didn’t like the box.

  • Rootsman start was mediocre in Round 3 as they drew for LUST (Just As I Am) and (You’re My Inspiration). Ranger later made a speech referring to Sizzla as Little Thunder’s artists and pointing out to the crowd that because Bounty Killer was Rootsman’s artist, for Chucky to “line up” 30 Bounty Killer. It was over at that point, the sound could hardly finish the dubs that they drew – and even started taking requests from the audience. Then came the Kartels, Munga (Kill Sound From Weekend to Weekend), Khago (Tun Up Di Ting), and the best forward for Rootsman for the night – Capleton’s “Kill Sound Everywhere”, as well as a special called Don A Road by Dwayno and Dolla Kind.

ROUND 3 – 5 MINS EACH

  • Little Thunder played first in Round 3. The played good songs, mostly foundation – and got no great forwards. Overall, an ordinary round for Little Thunder, not matching the intensity of their 2nd round
  • Showtime played an uninspiring 3rd Round with nothing memorable coming from the box,  The new mic talker was not quite normal and it would be fair to say the sound from the USA flopped in their important 3rd Round.
  • Rootsman didn’
[t have to do anything special in Round 3 – they just kept beating tunes, knowing they were safe in the clash. The drew some Bounty Killer (Clappa Clap) which got a big forward, as well as Idonia (We A Kill Dem Off).

TUNE-FI-TUNE

  • Round 3 had ended, it was 3:20am and the Club had to close @ 3:30 – time for Tune-fi-Tune!  Showtime had been voted out after their last round, so the tune-fi-tune would feature only Little Thunder vs Rootsman.
  • Tunes 1 allamp; 2:
Little Thunder drew for Culture with “Conquer” as their first tune
Rootsman played Jr Reid “Use Dem Brain”
    Round One Decision: Rootsman
  • Tunes 3 allamp; 4:
Not sure what tune played as Little Thunder’s 2nd tune
Rootsman played “Killing a sound is so easy to do”
  • Tunes 5 allamp; 6:
Little Thunder drew for their anthem, Bob Andy/Marcia Griffitsh (We’ll Be Together / Kill A Sound Bwoy” and got a decent forward
Rootsman played a Puddy Roots custom tune (Trying to Conquer Me) – “Tonight Rootsman murder Little Thunder sound”, tactically withheld from earlier counter-action usage possibilities in Round One
  • After: Rootsman played Leroy Smart (Victory) to seal the clash and collect the trophy. Words from selector Chucky…”on to the next one”….

Gunmen Rob People Outside Hung Shing & Watoos Restaurants

August 03 2012: Caribana Thursday festivities didn’t end too well for a number of people gathered outside popular Chinese Food joints Watoos and Hung Shing at Dundas & Spadina early this morning.  After exiting the restaurants (not far from 52 Divison), the congregation of party goers (some of which

included popular promoters) gathered outside and were robbed at gunpoint. According to one witness, “Di robbers dem just rolled up in a car with about five people in it”.  These thugs casually made their way into the unsuspecting crowd of party goers before tactically approaching each person revealing their concealed weapon(s), then silently and quickly robbing them!

Even though this robbery took place in the early morning hours when it is still dark out, many in Toronto have been happening in broad daylight.  According to another witness who asked not to be identified, “Di man dem tek anything…contents from your pocket, wallet, keys, money, cell phone, purse, credit cards…some will even order you to your car so they can rob the car too!  It was all over in a matter of two to three minutes, dem dere, den dem gone!”.

Now, word on the street is…there’s a new ‘robbery at gunpoint’ scam targeting promoters and/or their ticket delivery staff.  This latest  technique involves nightclub patrons (usually females) ordering ticket delivery services for popular events from promoters that are willing to drive anywhere to get advance cash ticket sales, except, when the promoter arrives at an agreed ‘public location’ to exchange ticket(s) for cash, he/she is met by gunmen who proceed to rob all of the money the promoter is carrying as well as the unsold tickets that he/she is carrying which could easily run into the thousands.  Many of these crimes go unreported for a variety of reasons and it may only be a matter of time before somebody is seriously harmed or injured

Going back to yesteryear, ‘robbing’ became trending in Toronto.  People that attended dances were getting robbed on the dance floors during popular events not just outside after the dance.  This trend caused immense fear amongst the dancehall community and it resulted in an economic downturn for a once thriving Toronto dance and concert marketplace.  These robberies soon came to a halt – several robbers got killed and those that did not, well, they ended up behind bars on other charges.  The concern now is, some of those ‘robbers’ have done their time and have been released from jail, free to roam – back to terrorize the Toronto Dance Scene once again.  Yeah, dem dawgs, deh hungry!!!  No money nah run starr and dem have blood inna dem eye!!!  Please be careful when you go out partying this Caribana weekend!

Anyone with information on the aforementioned robbery or any other incidents involving gun crime are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS) or toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS.

DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE? “They are criminals, yes, but, they also have “mouths to feed” – di baby mom dem a pressure dem and with little or no education, no job and no value for life, these so-called small time gangsters and thugs appear justified in using guns to get their food!”

QUESTION: What would you do if a lone gunman or gunmen approached you with a concealed weapon(s) and demanded your goods?

King Turbo signs King Sharpe As New Clash Selector!

August 01st 2012: Breaking News – Long time famed Desert Storm selector King Sharpe has been recruited by Canada’s King Turbo as their newest clash mic man and selector. This move alone brightens the future for King Turbo and immediately raises their “stock” value.  The deal is significant

because for some years now (since the departure of Ricky Turbo aka “Metro” from the sound and blood cousin of King Sharpe), King Turbo, most likely Canada’s most stocked sound when it comes to dubplates and specials, has been struggling without a potent and feared clash micsman/selector.

The search has been on for a clash mics man/selector for years now, more precisely since July 20th, 2007 when King Turbo (with MC/mics man Jahmin) and Studio Mixx beat Mighty Crown and King Addies in the Tag Team Clash II at The Docks (Toronto,Canada)

According to Slingshot, the “deal” to recruit Sharpe had “been in the works for some time”, but, it wasn’t until early Spring of this year that King Turbo members Capleton and Cecile (initiators of the idea) proposed the idea to Slingshot, O’Toole and Spex after already doing some pre-negotiations with Sharpe behind the scenes.

After going back and forth for a couple of months, the idea was eventually agreed upon by all of King Turbo’s members. By mid June, not only was King Sharpe recruited as the newest King Turbo member, but, he signed a contract making it ‘official’.  According to Slingshot, Sharpe has already appeared at a few dances with Turbo, although nothing ‘clash’ worthy as of yet.

Says Slingshot from King Turbo – “We put a lot of thought into this…it’s not a handshake ting, everything is official, copa set, we just a jell up, an get ready to sawt out some bwoy.”

According to King Turbo’s Shooks Dynamo, recruiting Sharpe was a “brilliant move” as Sharpe “fills the void for an exclusive dancehall selector needed for Turbo.”

The King Turbo family, in preparing for a resurrection of sorts, now have weekly meetings and do their own parties, boat cruises, etc.  King Turbo will also be debuting their new website in a few weeks from now, so things appear to be going in a progressive direction for one of Canada’s most loved sounds who still sport radio shows – one on CIUT 89.5 FM (‘Morning Ride’ – Mondays 7 – 10 AM) and the other on Toronto’s G98.7 FM (‘Riddim Track’  – Sundays 8 – 11 PM).

In October, King Turbo will be visiting Jamaica’s Sound Festival event (the only Canadian sound on the bill) organized in-part by Freddie McGregor and the Jamaica Tourist Board – it features visiting sounds from such places as America, England, Italy, Japan and other International countries.

As for King Turbo’s re-emergence into the clash scene – says Slingshot – “There really hasn’t been a clash market (in the last few years) and it doesn’t make money.  But, for years, we’ve had no legit MC and now we have one.  We need to get rid of some of these soundbwoys…we have a whole bunch of ish we wanna let off, so many things people haven’t heard, stuff that makes me get goose bumps when I hear it”.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS…

  • How does ‘Ricky Turbo’ feel about King Sharpe joining Turbo?
  • How does Sharpe feel about switching sounds – from Desert Storm to Turbo and “replacing” his blood cousin – ‘Ricky Turbo’ who is still playing out as another entity of King Turbo?
  • Will King Sharpe get love now that he has joined Turbo?  Can he “cut it” as the newest member of an increasingly growing King Turbo family?
  • How many sounds has King Sharpe been with, anybody know?
  • With the addition of King Sharpe, can Canadian clash fans ‘officiall’y say that Canada now has its own Mighty Crown?
  • Will King Turbo have an obligation to ‘kill’ Canadian sounds before killing sounds abroad, and, if so, which sounds stand in the way (King Sharpe or no King Sharpe)?

Vybz Kartel Trial Pushed Back Again — Date set for December 3

October 29th 2012: Vybz Kartel will have to wait another month to begin his defense in one of his murder charge. The former Portmore Empire head appeared in the Home Circuit Court earlier today but his trial did not get underway. Instead the deejays trial was rescheduled for December 3, after both

prosecution and defense agreed that the court is too busy to take on the trial. Vybz Kartel will go on trial for the murder of St. Catherine promoter/businessman Barrington “Bossie” Burton.

According to official police report, Burton was shot and killed last year summer in the Gregory Park area of St. Catherine, while standing on the side of the roadway with a group of friends.

Vybz Kartel is also set to go on trial for the murder of one of his alleged associate, Clive “Lizard” Williams. Detectives say they have video evidence linking Vybz Kartel to that murder.

Several of Vybz Kartel’s associates are jointly charged with the deejay including Shawn “Storm” Campbell, stylist Calvin Haye, and several others. Vybz Kartel returns to court next month to answer to Williams’ murder charge.

Toronto’s King Klepto Sound to represent Canada @ Global Clash NYC 12.08.12

October 29th 2012: Vybz Kartel will have to wait another month to begin his defense in one of his murder charge. The former Portmore Empire head appeared in the Home Circuit Court earlier today but his trial did not get underway. Instead the deejays trial was rescheduled for December 3, after both

Congratulations are in order!  Big Up King Klepto Sound!  Started by Shortman and Stitch outta Malton in 1992, the sound quickly grew to include official members Apache, Rich Kid, Polly, Gremlin, DJ Dunn, Spotlight, Richie and Chuckstar.  In Toronto, we are familiar with King Klepto and the antics of Polly Famous, now, it’s New York’s turn.  They recently got invited to represent Canada in the upcoming Global Clash (Andrew Digital Production) in New York City December 8th.  This might be their biggest break yet.

I spoke to King Klepto’s Polly Famous (who has been part of the crew since 2003 – taking over from Rich Kid, Spotlight and Gremlin, who had been playing with ‘the sound’ since its inception) about the upcoming Global Clash and the event that might have placed them there – the NO MERCY Sound clash that took place September 28th at Albany Manor in Brooklyn, NY that featured Innocent vs King Klepto (people say Klepto may have been sabotaged in that event after alcohol spilled onto their laptop preventing them from advancing) vs Kosmik.

I asked him about the NYC clash scene and how it compares to Canada’s and how they’re dealing with the fact that their top artist, “Vybz Kartel” is incarcerated – Klepto dubs featuring Kartel get old fast and with a lack of quality new music out there, how they deal with it.  Lets face it, we are living in an era where modern day clash fans demand new music.

I ended the interview by asking Polly to rate the ‘sounds’ (one by one, based on their strengths and weaknesses) they’ll be up against come Saturday December 8th 2012 for Global Clash @ Pulse 48 a.k.a. Club C-Pac (Brooklyn, NY) – featuring Heavy Hammer (Italy) Vs Soul Supreme (USA) Vs King Klepto (Canada) Vs Madd Squadd (Jamaica) Vs Risky Dise (Japan) Vs King Addies  (USA).  Hosted by Bobby Konders Hot 97 FM.

We hope the Canadian massive will be in attendance.  Stay tuned to ReggaeMania.com for updates on King Klepto Sound and the Global Clash as the date draws near.   We congratulate the crew on their success and wish them the best of luck!  It was ten years ago this year that a miracle happened at Club Amazura in Queens, NYC – Canada’s likkle sound, ‘Rebel Tone’ took part in the World Clash and was crowned the winner!  So, anything can happen…Enjoy the audio!

45 Sound Clash Declared A Draw After Trophy Smashed by Fan!

October 21st 2012: Last Saturday October 20th @ Masonic Hall (Mississauga), the 9th Annual 45 Sound Clash took place.  Five Sounds were competing – King Judah Vs VIP Sound Vs Pure Harmony Vs Cummtraxx Vs Majestic Vybz.  After the departure of Pure Harmony and Cummtraxx, the next

sound to be eliminated (at the end of round three and by a close vote) was VIP.  The clash vibe up to this point was noicee, setting the stage for a ‘chune fi chune’ trophy round featuring King Judah Vs. Majestic Vybz.

Unfortunately, clash fans never got to see the ‘chune fi chune’ round take place.  A fan of VIP sound, upset that his Sound didn’t advance went off the rails – at the peak of his rage, he grabbed the trophy and smashed it prompting audience members to start exiting the venue.  The vibe was lost so the promoters ended the clash and declared a ‘draw’ between King Judah and Majestic Vybz.

The DVD is much anticipated and should tell the rest of the story!

Armed Robbery @ Smoke Shop Studios

10-19-12: I got the BBM blast just before 5 pm informing me that an armed robbery has just taken place at popular Smoke Shop (recording) Studios, home of artists such as Eyesus, Father Price, Chuckstar, Bushrat, Chuckleberry, Anthony Malvo (the list goes on), and other popular artists.

According to reports, a bunch of youths rushed into the residential property sometime this afternoon, and started with the robbing.

“Badmind naw guh fukkin STOP???  How dem juss pull a armed robbery on Smoke Shop – a house studio wit a trying Yute WTF is wrong wid dese PUSSYS!”

Fortunately, studio engineer Smokey (described as g good, clean youth) was the lone occupant at the time of the robbery (he lives there with his mom), and despite being violated and disrespected, he suffered no serious injuries. Speculation is that thieves appeared mostly interested in money and jewelry while also searching for weed (the recording studio was left untouched).

Smokeshop Studios is a basement studio located in Brampton in the Queen Street and Torbram area, and is usually very busy with a steady clientelle. Smoke Shop Studios just released a tribute song for the late Captain Barkey, who had voiced the tune for Smoke Shop only a couple of months back.

Our source, who will remain nameless, had this comment;

“Di youths dem hungry yes, but why target this youth, him good and clean – dedicated to the industry – how much u can get from a likkle man charging $30 per hour for studio time? Why dem nuh go rob jewelry store or bank!”

We are following up on this story and will be updating within minutes. The robbing is back people, so be aware when u go out of what’s going on. Dj’s and promoters are being targeted. Without naming names, just a couple of weeks ago, a promoter sensing he was about to be robbed – dashed to his car and banged up a couple of others while making a quick escape, not caring about the damage to his or the neighboring parked cars! He got away. Another DJ who sensed he was going to be robbed, took off, got a ride home from another person, and came back for his car the next day. Did you hear there was robbing going on outside of Centennial College the night that Cham performed there? Be careful people – di robbers are out there and dem hungry!

Rodney Price a.k.a. Bounty Killer changes name to Jesus Price!

10-18-12: Bounty Killer (who’s declared war on all things ‘devil’, i.e. the music of  Tommy Lee) recently (unofficially) changed his name from Rodney Price to ‘Jesus Price’! You can hear Bounty Killer referring to himself as ‘Jesus Price’ on his Tommy Lee diss track – “Nyammy Lee” (he’s also referred to Tommy

“Silver bullet, holy water, the holy bible wi a walk wid, the holy cross… the beginning of wisdom is the purging of blood, killer wa happen to them, Kiprich wa wi seh…no antichrist, no demon, no witchcraft,” – “War Fi God (Kill Di Devil)” – (Bounty, Kiprich + Kalado)

as ‘Tommy Flee’). Let’s review some of the lyrics…”Jesus Price pounce upon the demon, a dem tink seh a three man but a me man…bury demon dem dun dead” and “Don’t worry, Jesus Price deh yah doh, so the little children should come to me…”

Another example of Bounty referring to himself as ‘Jesus Price’ comes from his twitter feed.  His response to Tommy Lee after Lee’s video for “Goat Head” (Bounty Killer Diss) premiered – “GrungGaadZilla a.k.a Jesus Price is officially the Dancehall G.O.A.T the Greatest of All Time…”. Lol!

My question to Bounty Killer is…You’ve ‘unofficially’ changed your name to ‘Jesus Price’ and you continue to rage war with Tommy Lee (over his lyrical content – “freak”, “devil”, “demon”) releasing your own tracks, dissing him, yet, you’ve creatively spliced, diced, re-sampled and re-invented for yourself – the title of “God” (Bounty is also known as the “Grung Gaad”) and now “Jesus”!  Does that not make Bounty “guilty” of sacrilege?

Let’s really take a look at what’s happening here.  Bounty, one of Dancehall’s premiere artistes, is fighting tooth and nail for the Dancehall music and culture.  He said,…”yow every man know a me say youths fi run the place, but nuh come chat nuh f**kry bout freak and devil or demon…when since u can just come inna Dancehall and a bring een demon ppl freely so? how long we have we Dancehall nice and pure”…yet, he himself has thrived and profited from metaphorically taking and re-inventing for himself, the names “killer”, “Jesus” and “God”. For the most part – the brainwashing has worked – Bounty has cunningly gotten away with incorporating the concept into his own brand. There is only one God I worship and it ain’t Bounty.

Since when is it okay to put a “killer” on the same level as God? By calling himself a “God”, isn’t Bounty, just like Tommy Lee, “guilty” of straying the garrisons away from Godliness? I mean, what’s next, dancehall artists engaged in warfare, changing their names to infamous dictators, serial killers and murderers in order to justify their actions? Imagine, one day we have artists named “Hitlerman” or crews named “The Clifford Olson Posse!” Bounty compares his crew to Jack the Ripper in the tune – “War Fi God (Kill Di Devil)”.  Where do we draw the line

I’m not buying into Bounty’s argument.  Number one, claiming the ‘Sparta’ concept has ties to homosexuality and number two, he’s bringing ‘demon’ people into the Dancehall Scene. Tommy’s lyrics are just that – his own!  He is free to write about whatever he wants.  Listening to his music won’t make me join the ‘dark’ side. Lol! Aside  from “Uncle Demon” – title wise, I can’t come up with any other example(s) of true ‘demonic’ lyrics. If you’re reading this and beg to differ, please comment below and show me what you’ve got – lyric wise.  Make me eat my words!

Taking it a step further, what gives Bounty Killer the right to judge Tommy Lee, when he himself has stepped over the edge?  He was in court to answer charges of unlawfully wounding after being accused of beating his 19-year-old girlfriend with a hammer and a mosquito swatter. Who do you think is walking a fine line – Bounty ‘Jesus’ Price or Tommy ‘Uncle Demon’ Lee? lol!

Personally, I think Tommy Lee has every right to defend himself and I applaud him for doing so.  I only hope, for his sake, that he puts this ‘devil’ business to rest because Bounty Killer is NOT a person to mess with – history has proven this. As the self proclaimed ‘guardian’ of Dancehall, Bounty has every right to fight the good fight, but, how come he never sat down with Tommy, one on one and voiced his concerns about his lyrical content?  Think about it…the “Warlord” just went straight to war! Tommy Lee is not a practicing satanist, at least not that i know of.

Wanted Captain Barkey + Ex-Girlfriend murder suspect fatally shoots himself! I

10-17-12: Joseph ‘County’ Kernizan the suspect named in connection with the double murder of 50-year-old Wayne Hamilton more popular known as ‘Captain Barkey’ and his 36-year-old ex Tracy Bennett (on October 13), fatally shot himself last night in North West Miami Dade County as Police law

enforcement closed in on him.

According to media reports, the suspect fled to Florida following the double murder at a Bronx New York hotel on Saturday where the Miami Police, NYPD Detectives and the Marshall Taskforce of New York, tracked down Kernizan at an apartment in South Florida. One Officer stated in a CBS4 News interview, that they swooped down on the location and called out persons from the apartment; while persons began to exit the location, shots were heard. A robot was used by the police to go into the apartment where a body was discovered along with weapons. On October 13, Captain Barkey and his female companion Tracy Bennett were exiting a motel when its suspected that Kernizan opened fire, killing him on the spot and then chased down his ex-girlfriend who pleaded for her life before she was also shot dead. The suspect then went back over to Captain Barkey’s body and pumped more shots into him to make sure that he was dead the Police stated.

New reports suggest that Barkey was warned by close friends about Joseph Kernizan. Fellow dancehall star Wickerman, who is also a very close friend of Barkey, says he warned the dancehall star about the dangers of getting involved with Bennett.  “He (Kernizan) had already broadsided their car, but Barkey never listened to me; the man wanted to kill the woman for a long time but he waited until he could get them together before he acted,” Wickerman said. NYPD Lieutenant, John Grimpel, told reporters that Kernizan, who was born in Haiti, possesses a very decorated criminal record, with 16 arrests that include assault, forgery, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery. Bennet, who share two children with Kernizan, had taken out a restraining order against prior to the murder..  Captain Barkey’s body will be flown to Jamaica.

Vybz Kartel Not Yet Missed After 1 Year of Incarceration!

10-13-12: “What must rise must fall – what goes up must come down”? I’m not sure how much of an edge Vybz Kartel has lost in the dancehall despite being incarcerated since October of 2011. Time flies so fast, I can’t believe it’s been one year since Jamaica’s “World Boss” has been imprisoned, still

waiting to face charges that include possession of ganja, illegal possession of a firearm, conspiracy to commit murder and two murder charges.

But just like the legendary TuPac and Bob Marley – the living legend Vybz Kartel has seemingly left a stack of chunes behind that are now being released on what seems like a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Personally, I don’t think I’ve had a chance to miss Vybz Kartel as a DJ– not yet – and a couple of new songs a month is just fine for my DJ purposes. Give it another year or two, and maybe I won’t be saying the same. The Jamaican perspective for those living in Jamaica may be different, but up here in Canada, we never hot the chance to see Vybz Kartel visit to perform live.

The dancehall scene in Jamaica and abroad has not seen any significant change since Vybz has been away. He, along with Mavado, was so far ahead of the rest – the virtual top of the bottle neck. Dancehall has not lost Vybz Kartel yet – he is still inside the mix and has not yet become obsolete ( it is possible though that this day will come). In the mean time – we have others who have risen to the bottle neck – artists such as Konshens, I-Octane, Cham, Popcaan, Tommy Lee, and even Mr. Vegas.

Today – dancehall is in transition – and we must be prepared to accept change. Dancehall isn’t currently being run by good songs or even good riddims – it is being run by good “popular” artists, and by good marketing and branding. There may be one or two exceptions to the rule (i.e. Mavado), but today we are seeing a different kind of dancehall, and the transformation without Kartel is not yet complete, so it is too early to judge.

BTW – I’m still trying to find someone who’s read Vybz Kartel’ book (yes I said book!) – “Speaking Behind Bars”, released last month. I’ve heard interesting things about this book, and what it “reveals” about Jamaica and some of its hidden truths. Vybz Kartel also answers questions regarding his bleaching and other shenanigans. I look forward to getting into this book myself, but I am very curious to know what people think. If you have read the book, feel free to leave a comment as to your thoughts.

Tommy Lee GOAT Video Responds Back to Bounty Killer

10-12-12: Tommy Lee’s GOAT video (targeting Bounty Killer) is out. You can see it on our ReggaeManiaTV YouTube “Top 30 Dancehall Videos” Playlist, or by visiting ReggaeMania.com and going to VIDEOS.  The first thing I do is laugh when I see this video, as the very first shot shows a goat

just sitting there with dark glasses and a “ goatee” beard resembling the Killa himself. At first, I thought this looked cheap and tacky, and I still do to some degree. Why the still shot? In Jamaica, we slaughter and skin goats then hang the carcass from the limb of a tree in preparation for feasting. So the Bounty Killer goat wearing Bounty Killer glasses is cool, but I would’ve rather seen a real goat (not a still shot) with fear in it’s eyes and body language because he knows his inevitable fate (Sparta could’ve been super imposed as the slaughterer with the machete (Lol). Tommy Lee – be warned – “GOAT” also stands for “Greatest Of All Time”.

On a serious note, this video and song is a solid response from the young Tommy Lee as he enters the “man vs boy” arena after being targeted by Bounty and his entourage. Check these lyrics;

“Fool stop pree me, Goat head you can’t defeat me, Hmmmm..nuh mek mi rise it
..You a elder mi never wah diss you, But the wworld done know you diss fuss. Bout you come a pull batty aligations, Member you do video wid a naked man….”

Terminal DG releases “Glasses Dark” Music Video – Madd!

November 30th 2012: Terminal DGs – “Glasses Dark” music video was officially released today.  Not only is this one of the best songs out there on the Duffle Bag Riddim, but, it was one of the first songs on the riddim.  It carries an entity of its own – ‘everything dark’!   When asked how he came up with the

concept for the song, Terminal DG states – “In Jamaica mi wear nuff glasses (shades), my friends there are always asking for them ‘cause dem sey – all a’mi glasses daark!”.

The music video was primarily filmed in Mandeville, Kingston (JA), but, features a few Toronto shots too.  It was shot and produced by Chillaa (Son of Terminal DG & President of SoSeriuz Films).  The video captures camaraderie at its best – friends young and old, dancing, singing and just having fun whilst wearing shades.  For those who expected this video to be “dark”, states Terminal DG, “It’s all about people having fun, no need to promote crime.  Bad man dem a ‘ave fun and a good time, but, jus’ don’t cross the line”.

Not only does the video showcase great footage from Yaad, but, it also spotlights local Mandeville artistes such as Boom Boom, Quick Cook, Labba Labba, Shelly Belly and Jermaine Squad.  Terminal DG continues to deliver songs that are current and relevant to the time.

“…Glasses Dark has stood the test of time…”

Terminal DG used his street connections to link up with Skatta Burrell from DownSound – the man who created the Duffle Bag Riddim.  One of the first songs on the Riddim, “Glasses Dark” has stood the test of time – eight month’s later, it still receives regular airplay on Toronto radio stations CHRY, CHIN-FM and Jamaica’s Irie FM.

Another endorsement for Terminal DG came from Jamaica’s DJ Kenny – inspired by the ‘glasses dark’ movement, he recently entitled his latest Mix Tape – “Everything Dark” ( http://itapez.com/2012/11/26/dj-kenny-everything-darkkk-dancehall-mix-nov-2012/ ).

As Terminal DG prepares for his performance at Sting 2012, his management team remains busy.  Their objective – to have the “Glasses Dark” video featured on all of the major Jamaican TV Stations.  We wish Terminal DG ‘good luck’ come December 26th.  As for the video, if luck is part of skill – then your ting sell off!  Enjoy the video!

Tommy Lee Sparta sued for 1.5 million by Canadian Promoter!

November 26th 2012: “We’re suing them for 1.5 million dollars, as damages for tarnishing our name and as re-imbursement for the lost revenues from the cancelled shows. We’re also red-flagging every person on their travelling party, from Canada on a whole, Germany, everywhere” – Richard Hope | CRV Ent Promo

Tommy Lee Sparta is currently Jamaica’s hottest Dancehall artist.  He recently graced Toronto with his presence for a short promotional tour and was booked to return for a full- on gig December 15th at the Kool Haus.  The concert was being presented by one of Canada’s biggest Urban promotional companies – CRV Entertainment Promo (Toronto shows…Mavado, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Konshens, DeMarco, Popcaan Exclusive Caribana Tour etc.).  Now, three weeks into the promotion, the concert has been cancelled by Tommy Lee Sparta’s Management after an e-blast entitled “NO TOMMY LEE SPARTA FOR CANADA” was broadcast last Friday evening. It read…

Fast rising entertainer, Tommy Lee Sparta is being advertised for an upcoming Canada event where he will not appear. The December 15th event has publicized the Psycho performer in concert”.

The following is a statement from Tommy Lee Sparta’s manager, Junior Fraser,
“We have no intention to do that Canada show on December 15th. The promoter is a con man. He deposited a fraud check to pay for two dates, another one in Trinidad for November 17th as well. The bank pulled back the funds and notified us of the situation. The check was drawn on a Canadian based company which we have permanently blocked from doing business with as well as their affiliates”.

On the afternoon of Monday November 26th, ReggaeMania.com broke the story “Tommy Lee T.O. Concert Postponed Indefinitely After Promoters Issue “Fraudulent Cheques”. About an hour later, we were contacted by CRV Entertainment Promo on BBM – they had seen the article and were anxious to tell their side of the story.

In our conversation with Richard Hope, CEO of CRV Entertainment Promo, we learned that CRV Entertainment Promo had indeed booked Tommy Lee Sparta to perform in the areas sighted in the Tommy Lee Management blast, but, as for the issuing of ‘fraudulent cheques’, Richard Hope stated, “We’re a legit’ company that does everything by the book, how could we issue fraudulent cheques from our own account; that would be plain stupid”.

“We sent them (Tommy Lee Management & Borderline Agency) part of the money in advance, a $1,000 money gram which we have a receipt for. But they wanted the other half sent before work permits were issued. That’s one thing we could not do, we’ve had problems in the past with Jamaican artists not having the proper paperwork entitling them enter and work in Canada. Besides, nobody gives an artist one hundred percent (100%) of their money in advance.  They were always going to get their money, our lawyer had put the required funds in an escrow account, so their money was always secure, but they wanted to receive, withdraw and have the right to spend their entire fee before even setting foot here. That shows desperation for money, that’s how promoters lose, you can’t come into a county, do nothing and get paid”.

When ReggaeMania.com inquired further about the fraudulent cheques accusation, Richard Hope responded by stating, “It makes no sense, it’s a stupid allegation that won’t stick in court. We sent them (Heavy D Management /Affiliate agent Jacklyn Baker Of Borderline Agency in Florida) a postdated cheque dated for November 17 2012 and had our signed contract for the shows. What happened is that someone from their camp not only changed the date on the cheque, but also tried to deposit it afterwards. The date of the post dated cheque was 11/17/2012, they changed it to 10/11/2012 – a date previous to the contract even being signed”.

States Richard Hope, “They (Tommy Lee Management & Borderline Agency) are now under investigation for fraudulently changing the date on the cheque so that they could have access to funds that was not yet theirs. What they did was easily traceable and recognizable by the banks and our lawyers. Furthermore, they are tarnishing the name of a reputable company who does business all around the world, by making and publicizing these false accusations. We’re now in the process of dropping a lawsuit on Tommy Lee Sparta & Borderline Agency in Florida and his (Tommy Lee’s) management for their actions leading to the cancellation of our shows”.

States Richard Hope, “We’re suing them for 1.5 million dollars, as damages for tarnishing our name and as re-imbursement for the lost revenues from the cancelled shows. We’re also red-flagging every person on their travelling party, from Canada on a whole, Germany, everywhere  We’re also sending a letter from our lawyers to the Jamaican High Commission and also the UK High Commissioner for their foolish act. We’re shutting them down entirely. Legally we have to do so after December 15th (the initially scheduled Toronto show date), so it’s just a matter of time. They may think this is a joke, but everything we say are facts”.

We here at ReggaeMania.com will stay on top of things.  We will provide updates on this situation between CRV Entertainment Promo and Tommy Lee Sparta Management as they become available.

Tommy Lee vs ‘False Claims’ + $1.5 M Lawsuit Threat by Canadian Promoter!

Monday November 26-2012: ReggaeMania.com broke the news that Jamaica’s hottest artist, Tommy Lee Sparta, alongside his manager, Heavy D (Heavy D Promotions) and his booking agent, Jackie Baker (Borderline Production Inc.) were being sued by Canada’s CVR Entertainment Promo after a

show that was scheduled for December 15th at the Kool Haus in Toronto was pulled by the aforementioned parties due to alleged ‘fraudulent’ cheques that were issued by Canada’s CVR Entertainment Promo as deposits for the show.  The abrupt Tommy Lee Sparta concert cancellation was torpedoed across the Canadian border via a November 24th e-blast sent out by Heavy D’s office entitled “No Tommy Lee Sparta For Canada”.

The following statement was made in the e-blast by Tommy Lee Sparta’s manager, Junior Fraser, “We have no intention to do that Canada show on December 15th. The promoter is a con man. He deposited a fraud check to pay for two dates, another one in Trinidad for November 17th as well”.

We were contacted by CVR Entertainment Promo’s CEO – Richard Hope (aka Rich Nice) within hours of this story being published.  He wanted to tell their side of the story and volunteered to provide documents that would act as ‘proof’ to substantiate what they had to say, including a cheque issued from a TD Canada Trust account to Borderline Productions Inc., that showed convincing evidence that someone had illegally altered its date.

CVR was not afraid to name names.  In his rebuttal, Richard Hope accused the artist’s agent – Jackie Baker of rolling back the date on the cheque and depositing it afterwards.  CVR’s claim is that the cheque, which was returned two days later marked NSF only ‘bounced’ because of the ‘alleged’ criminal act.  They are mystified as to how and why this cheque was altered and able to be successfully deposited into the bank.

After our interview with CVR Entertainment Promo, ReggaeMania.com published the news breaking story, “Tommy Lee Sparta Sued for 1.5 Million Dollars by Canadian Promoter!”.  Little did we know that this story would go viral – sporting the most hits in a single day since our re-launch in September!  Our next duty was to speak to Heavy D (Tommy Lee’s Manager) and Jackie Baker (Tommy Lee’s Agent).  When we contacted Jackie by telephone, she was understandably very upset and quite emotional.  A respected industry veteran with 15 years of experience, her main concern and priority was to “clear her name” as she alleges that many of the ‘facts’ that were told to ReggaeMania.com by Rich Nice of CVR, were in her opinion, “plain lies!”.  CVR Entertainment Promo was given the opportunity to tell their side of the story, so, it’s only fair that we let Jackie tell her side of the story.  As the saying goes, ‘there are two sides to every story’.

Jackie’s  company – Borderline Production Inc. had run trouble-free for fifteen years, her reputability meant everything in her line of work.  Her agency represents some of the top artists in Dancehall today –  Red Rat to Charly Blacks, Marcia Griffiths to Cocoa Tea, Jah Vinci to Busy Signal etc.  Jackie admits, in all her years of doing business, she’s never encountered any shenanigans from any other promoters like she’s now facing with CVR Entertainment Promo.  ReggaeMania.com spoke with Jackie via the telephone November 27th to get her side of the story.  At one point during our conversation, she put me on hold, called Heavy D and came back on the line for a three way call so that Heavy D could add his point of view too.

“Richard has been the wickedest thing since the devil, a psychopath, a pathological liar, a thief, a con man who belongs in prison.  Richard has defrauded enough people; we are not putting up with it anymore”. – Jackie / Borderline Productions

RM: CVR Entertainment Promo claimed you wanted one hundred percent (100%) of your money up-front for the December 15th Tommy Lee concert, is this true?

JB: “That is not true – the only place I do business where I get a one hundred percent is Africa, ’cause you cannot bring money out of Africa”.

RM: As a leading artist Booking Agency, what exactly is your policy when a promoter wants to book an artist like Tommy Lee?

JB: “If a promoter books a show from me, I send him out a contract, he has five to ten days to wire his fifty percent deposit and sends me a copy of the receipt so I can track it and match it – all good.  While negotiating to sign that contract and awaiting confirmation of the deposit, the artist (Tommy Lee) cannot accept booking offers from other bidders – the negotiated dates ‘temporarily’ belong to the promoter who has paid his deposit.  When Richard (CVR Ent.) reached that plateau, he sent me two fake wires, a bounced cheque and lies – “I’m gonna send you this, I’m gonna do this”.  We couldn’t have put up with any more, we have other promoters wanting our artist and now Richard is threatening to put a blocker on Tommy Lee – but you can’t put a blocker on Tommy Lee without a signed contract”.

RM: So, you were sent fake bank wires by CVR Entertainment Promo – after they were proven fake, did you receive any compensation?

JB: “When he (Richard) sent me my bank wire, the bank wire bounced, have you ever heard of that?  He didn’t just send us one, he sent us two!  Richard’s wires never cleared because they were fake.  I gave him five days to make good, so they (CVR Ent.) sent me that cheque.  What he did – he took an old bank wire receipt and he copied and pasted it.  He made up a fraudulent account, a fraudulent everything, we didn’t know the account the bank came from was not real until it never actually went through”.

RM: What happened when you contacted the bank used by CVR Entertainment Promo?
JB: “According to TD Canada Trust, there is no such number in the bank.  The bank wire did not come from TD, I have receipts to prove this”.

RM: That cheque is still a mystery.  Are you aware of CVR Entertainment Promo’s claim – that you (Jackie) received the cheque, changed the date on it and deposited it before the post date – which is why it would show up as NSF?

JB: “I have no idea who changed the date on it.  That’s how I got the cheque.  I put the cheque in the bank.  I have a cheque here from J.P. Morgan Chase – (Borderline Production Account) that says NSF (Non-sufficient Funds), it doesn’t say that a date was changed”.

RM: Are you saying that the photograph of the TD Canada Trust ‘suspect’ cheque published in our initial ReggaeMania.com article may have been a fake?

JB: “You saw the cheque that I sent out before I received it back from the bank with the big ol’ stamp on the front saying ‘Non-sufficient Funds’.  Your website is putting out the wrong cheque, it’s a copy of the cheque that I got offline that went through my bank.  The same bounced cheque where you can see alterations was the straw that broke the camel’s back”.

RM: This must be very frustrating for you.

JB: “This just didn’t start yesterday, what happened is that it finally came to an end and Richard is trying to back pedal.  Enough is enough – there’s only so much you can do.  People are calling up saying they have Tommy Lee and they gave Richard four or five thousand dollars to do the show and they don’t know what’s going on (there were four or five other people involved in the show) – we didn’t send out contracts to other people, that’s an automatic breach of contract…the show was for CVR Entertainment Promo only”.

RM: Was the contract ever signed by both parties?

JB: “I never sent it back signed.  I have the original and I have the other one I sent out to CVR that Richared signed.  He didn’t even change it (the contract) by typing over it; he took a pen and wrote through it before signing it.  None of the terms of the contract were satisfied and we learned that Richard was trying to write contracts on behalf of Tommy Lee for other foreign dates without authorization to do so.  We have had enough.  We can’t have our artists being promoted without secured deposits.  CVR never got any confirmation from us that the Tommy Lee was coming to Canada and no permission or authorization to start advertising as such”.

RM: So what happened in Trinidad?  Didn’t CVR Entertainment Promo book Tommy Lee for November 17th through your Agency?

JB: “I have a contract for November 17th in Trinidad.  Richard also sent me a fake wire for that too!”.

RM: So, Tommy Lee did or did not perform for CVR Entertainment Promo in Trinidad on November 17th?

JB: “Richard still kept the Tommy Lee show as advertised (without Tommy Lee) and told people on the mic that Tommy Lee was “banned from Trinidad” because of “immigration problems!”.  Now, that’s messing up the artist’s name and my name as a booking agent, when he (Richard) knew darn well he didn’t apply for a work permit in Trinidad.  CVR pre-sold and collected monies in Trinidad, that’s what he was trying to do in Canada also, we caught up to it”.

“CVR Promotions pre-sold and collected monies in Trinidad, that’s what he was trying to do in Canada also, we caught up to it”.

RM: So what happened in Trinidad could’ve transpired here in Canada?

JB: “Once bitten twice shy!  We have lost a couple of shows in Trinidad because of Richard.  We didn’t wanna lose these dates again in December because of him, so that’s why we pulled the show.  When we realized that the Trinidad show went on, we came out publically to say – he’s not going to do this anymore”.

RM: Is there any truth to the speculation of work permit and immigration problems for Tommy Lee, as sighted by CVR Entertainment Promo?

JB: “Tommy Lee don’t have a problem with his Visa, he was just in Canada a few weeks ago, he went to St. Vincent, Barbados too, he didn’t have a problem.  Richard (Martin) is a narcissistic liar, a pathological liar, a thief and a con man. What Richard was trying to do was to sell out the show at the Kool Haus and then tell the people (at the last minute) that Tommy Lee couldn’t get into Canada.  Ask Richard why he has problems in the Cayman Islands, that’s his practice, he goes to these islands, does these things, it catches up on him, he disappears for a couple of years and then he shows back up again”.

RM: Interesting…

JB: “Richard lies too much.  He’ll shoot me out an article saying Tommy Lee can’t perform in St. Vincent and that they ‘banned’ him and then the article is ‘fake’!  When it came time for him to pay the deposit for Trinidad, he’s telling me he’s having all these problems all over the place and I’m like, ‘Richard, you’re lying – Tommy Lee just finished his bill, what is the hold up?  Why are you promoting the artist when Borderline Productions Inc. doesn’t have a deposit?  Richard – cease and desist all motion when it comes to Tommy Lee, we’re no longer doing business with you’.  This is when this man got mad and he still didn’t stop (promoting the show without authorization), so we had to put out something in the press”.

RM: So, this has been going on for sometime now.

JB: “I’ve known this man for over ten years, I thought he stopped doing this foolishness.  This is not his first merry-go-round, not his first get-up, Richard Nice aka Anthony Hope aka Richard Hope aka Richard Evans aka Richard Narinesingh aka Richard Knight!”.

RM: Are you still good with Heavy D?  Are there any credibility issues now because of this whole mess between the two parties?

JB: “Now my relationship is not as whole as it would be with Heavy D.  I know Heavy D on a personal level, but, for right now, me and Heavy D is going to be having problems.  I’m the one that knows this promoter and I was saying “go ahead” (with the show).  He (Heavy D) wanted us to pull the show, but I said, “okay, things happen, give him (Richard) a chance to make restitution”.  We give him a chance and he (Richard) gives us some story.  I got mad and I said I’m not doing this no more.  He said, “okay, give me a couple of days” – that’s when he sent the cheque”.

RM: Jackie, one hour ago, a BBM came to me from Richard.  He’s laughing because apparently, Heavy D just called and is apologetically negotiating for a make-up concert early in 2013.  He said he refused Heavy D’s offer and told him he’s “getting sued”.

At this point, Jackie got pissed!  She instructed me to ‘hold on’ until she gets Heavy D on the line (she continues talking until Heavy D picks up).

JB: “Heavy D told Richard a couple of weeks ago he “don’t even wanna hear his name” and he should “f-off” and he’s a “con man”.  Heavy D is the one who put out the press release (cancelling the Toronto Tommy Lee show), why would Heavy D call Richard and try to be nice to him?  Richard has no credibility”.

At this point, Heavy D enters the three way telephone conversation stopping Jackie in her speech.  He was anxious to respond to Richard’s claim that he (Heavy D) had just called CVR Entertainment Promo to negotiate a Tommy Lee make-up date at the Kool Haus!

Heavy D: “A one word me can say – this man is a mad man unno dealing with yunno…is a mad…mad man, because everything he is doing is crazy and it is lie, he’s just talking things that doesn’t go like that.  Why would I call him and ask him to do the (Tommy Lee at the Kool Haus) show, for what?  Mi not even know him.  I don’t talk to that man and I do not want to talk to him, I don’t know what he’s talking about.  I don’t want to do no show with him ever in my life.  I’m not a liad and that’s all I can tell you”.

“I don’t want to do no show with him ever in my life.  I’m not a liad and that’s all I can tell you…the cheque he’s showing you is a fraud cheque, him just make up cheque…a pure lie him tell you!” – Heavy D / Heavy D Production

RM: One question Heavy D, the cheque – Richard claims one of your people changed the date on the cheque…

Heavy D: “That’s a lie, Richard couldn’t have had that cheque.  The cheque he’s showing you is a fraud cheque, him just make up cheque, he’s a liad.  A pure lie him tell you”.

JB: I have the cheque (laughter), I have it inna mi hand.

Heavy D: “The one him did give you is the one he mek up.  Look pon di one him give u and look pon di one wi have, I bet it don’t match.  That bwoy a liad man”.

RM: Thanks Heavy D, sorry to waste your time. (Heavy D hangs up. The conversation resumes with Jackie).

RM: Jackie, what about the whole lawsuit threat, have you been contacted by Richard’s lawyer and if so, how are you going to deal with it? I had asked Richard for clarification on his attorney; does the name Herman & Herman, Marco Evans or Marco Herman ring a bell?

JB: “He had some man calling me saying that he’s a lawyer.  I called the Ministry of the Attorney General, they never heard of that attorney in Canada, so I know he don’t have no real attorney.  CVR has no grounds to sue”.

RM: Really?

JB: “My name is going to have to be cleared; I’m not lying down and playing dead.  I already called the anti-fraud division up there, I called the Canadian police before and everytime you call it generates a report number.  What I’m hoping to do now is find myself an attorney and then counter sue Richard for libel.  Also, I plan to put a lein on him – whatever he has up there, until he makes restitution for the damage that he has done to my name, my company and the artist that I represent at the time dealing with him, which is Tommy Lee Sparta”.

“This is our bread and butter, this is what we do, our livelihood; why are we going to sit there and let Richard mess it up for everyone, walk around and tell people he gave Popcaan $35,000 and Popcaan rob him, liar!  Richard has had problems with Busy Signal too.  You name the artist, he has had problems with them”.

“In my 44 years, Richard has been the wickedest thing since the devil, a psychopath, a pathological liar, a thief, a con man who belongs in prison.  Richard has defrauded enough people; we are not putting up with it anymore.  He has messed with one too many people’s livelihood.  CVR is a promotion company that needs to close, because he is a fraudulent promoter and a thief – he needs to be locked behind bars for defrauding people.  He’s upset now – trying to do the double dip, trying to come out publically, thinking it will scorn or intimidate me, but Richard, I’m hear to tell you, I’m not going away, this is a 4’11” woman that ain’t going nowhere!”.

CONCLUSION: ReggaeMania.com will be following this story over the next few days, and yes, we know we’re a website – not a courtroom!  We anxiously await your comments (please type them below in the comments box), because there are still several questions pending…

#1: When the ‘suspect’ cheque arrived at Borderline, why did nobody inspect it before depositing it – there were obvious signs of the cheque being altered previous to the deposit and when it was returned NSF, and the said promoter had allegedly already bounced two bank wires.

#2: Who altered the cheque and why?  Was it altered previous to being received, altered by Jackie, or altered by another party who took the cheque to the bank?

#3: Who deposited the cheque?  Jackie herself or an employee of Borderline?

#4: How does a trained J.P. Morgan Chase bank employee allow a cheque that was in that altered state with no initial on the changed date, to be deposited into anybody’s bank account?

#5: If the deposited cheque was indeed fake or counterfeit, then the illegal tampering and deposit of the cheque, is actually the second of two separate criminal acts, no?

#6: Does CVR Entertainment Promo have the right to do business without a signed contract?  We asked CVR for a copy of the contract signed by both parties, they admitted that they didn’t have one and reiterated that a verbal agreement combined with the ‘fact’ that Heavy D previously accepted funds from them meant that they had an agreement.

#7: Did Heavy D really call CVR during our interview with Jackie, hence going behind her back to try and remedy a situation (an obvious vote of non-confidence)?  CVR stuck by this story when questioned, but we are still waiting for Richard or Soul Vibes Promo (show partners who promised to call) to provide proof to confirm this claim.

#8: Since running our first story, a Toronto promotions company, who will remain unidentified, has come forward with an allegation that they were ‘robbed’ of their Tommy Lee deposit after a September 1st show contracted with Canadian agent Fabian Hanson (Vibes Enertainment), representing Heavy D Mangement at the time, failed to happen after a work permit was denied for the artist first time around.  Borderline Productions has since told ReggaeMania.com that once this  promoter comes forward and contacts them (they have no contact info. for these people), that they will be issued a refund!

#9: Since running our story, a separate local promoter has stepped up and told ReggaeMania.com that he has Tommy Lee Sparta scheduled to perform in Toronto and Montreal in January 2013.  Despite the claims made by CVR Promo about shutting down Tommy Lee Sparta’s ‘right’ to travel, this promoter stands firm that his scheduled concert will happen and it will not be stopped by the ‘antics’ of CVR Entertainment Promo.

David Rodigan resigns from Kiss FM after 22 Years!

November 22nd 2012: Big Up the Independent – who broke the story earlier today that England’s celebrated DJ David Rodigan has resigned from his Kiss FM radio show after serving on that station for 22 years.  Sir Rodigan’s reasons for resigning were in protest to what he called Kiss FM’s

“continuous ‘marginalisation’ of Reggae music in the (programming) schedule”.

David Rodigan, it seems, despite being a decorated radio broadcasting veteran and legendary sound clash sniper recognized worldwide and adored by even the toughest of critics in the music business, was demoted (once again) to a now midnight timeslot on Kiss FM in order to accommodate a show hosted by the singer Craig David.

There’s a rule in radio – midnight onwards, no matter who you are on the radio – most people are sleeping and audience numbers drop drastically.  Recognizing this, Rodigan may have did what he had the right to do – say “hell no!”, pack his bags and go.  We at ReggaeMania.com support him in his decision and we wish him good luck in all his future endeavors.  We’re sure he’ll soon end up back in Radio on the dial somewhere, if not right back on his rightful place at Kiss FM.

“Reggae Music Again” – Busy Signal Released From Prison…Back in Yaad!!!

November 19th, 2012 — ReggaeManiacs rejoice! – Busy Signal, one of Reggae’s elite artists is now FREE after serving six months in a United States Prison after pleading guilty on a charge of absconding bail in July.  The deejay was arrested in May in Kingston, Jamaica after stepping off a

plane from London.  He was then transferred to the United States after deciding not to contest his extradition.

News broke (courtesy of Busy Signal’s Twitter Account) during the evening of Friday November 16th – that Busy Signal, aka Glendale Goshia Gordon, was now on Jamaican soil after completion of time served.  After touching down at Norman Manley International Airport late Friday, he was met by his manager and a small entourage of family and friends.

The news was confirmed by a couple of unexpected Tweets coming from Busy Signal’s Twitter account — “Guess Who is Back? God Is GOOD!” and “Turf and Brothers Reunited. Only God.”  Despite not saying much, the posts had pictures attached which told the rest of the story and the rest is history.

At this time, Busy Signal and his management have yet to make an ‘official’ public statement about his improved state of affairs, but, our contacts were happy to report that Busy, within hours of touching down in Yard, was apparently back in the studio voicing dubs for a few select sounds that were anxious to be the first to cut and play Busy since his release from prison.  Welcome back Busy, we missed you and we’re glad that you had friends in high places!

Chuck Fenda accused of Murder + Drug Trafficking by Canada Border Services!

November 16th, 2012 — Big Up Chuck Fenda – one of the most talented and down to earth artists in Dancehall!  Chuck is on my BBM list and I’ve been receiving his broadcasts for the past month in regards to his upcoming Canadian Promotional Tour.  Upon his arrival in Montreal, Quebec November

10th, it appears that Leshorn Whitehead aka Chuck Fenda fell victim to the antics of the Canada Border Services Agency (I have cut and pasted his BBM broadcasts below so that you can share his pain or at least relate to what he went through).

Chuck, all I can say is hold your head high – you were clean – the CBSA had nothing on you!  Dancehall artists are all under the radar, not only in North America, but worldwide.  Just ask Mavado, Buju, Busy, Vybz Kartel, Shawn Storm, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Coco Tea and the list goes on.  I would guess, that you, Mr. Fenda, fell victim to racial profiling by the CBSA  – being Black, Jamaican, Rasta, with dreadlocks and a Jamaican accent – just enough grounds for some ignorant CBSA officer to ‘target’ you without just cause and put you through that humiliating ordeal.

The drug trafficking and murder accusation, Mr. Fenda, is an extension of a recurring systematic racism from our public servants, who, by the way, carry a license to lie at will.  Their positions of power carry no boundaries – anyone that is taken into custody is ‘suspect’ – guilty until proven innocent.  Feeding you bullshit about being wanted for drug trafficking and murder is just meant to demean and demoralize you and make you feel – dare I say it – like a nigger!

Civil service and Immigration workers worldwide systematically abuse their powers, usually without any obligation or mandate to apologize or admit to any wrong doing after treating people like livestock and putting them through a totally unnecessary (not to mention embarrassing) scenario.  Just shake your head and move on Mr. Fenda – Border Services and Immigration here is like Border Services and Immigration everywhere –  f&%$ed up!

Chuck Fenda’s BBM Broadcast…

“After going through an terrible ordeal at the Trudeau Airport in Montreal, I feel that the system is targeting some reggae artist, the Canadian Border Agency told me I was wanted for Drug Trafficking and Murder! They lock me down in custody for 6 hours, while doing their processing, Leshorn Whitehead aka Chuck Fenda have never lived in Canada, so how could I be wanted for those crimes?”.

“Then they claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, so you see what artists have to endure? But I know they can’t stop the mission Jah has ordained me to do, Love and itection to all in the struggle!”.

“To reiterate on the incident that took place in Montreal, Quebec — It is clear to me that they are trying to frame me for crimes I know nothing about. How could they claim that I am wanted for MURDER and DRUG TRAFFICKING? The only thing I am guilty of is defending poor people and speaking out against sexual abuse on children; if that is a crime, then YES! I am guilty!”.

Toronto’s Terminal DG Booked for Sting JA

November 16th, 2012 — Good news Canada – Toronto’s own Terminal DG (Garnett Palmer) of the “Glasses Dark” and “Flyer” fame has been asked to be a part of Jamaica’s Annual Sting 2012 – The Biggest, Baddest One Night Reggae Show ever! Terminal shared the exciting news with

ReggaeMania.com upon his arrival from Yaad (Jamaica) last Monday. He was there to sponsor and perform at an event in Mandeville alongside DJ Kenny, Delly Ranx and Quick Cook, to name a few.

According to Terminal DG’s management, Supreme Promotions (Isaiah Laing / Heavy D) has officially booked and contracted Terminal for the 29th staging of Sting at the JamWorld Entertainment Centre in Portmore, St. Catherine on Boxing Day. This year, Sting promoter, Isaiah Laing and co-director Heavy D bring back the show to the level that the people want. “We always listen to the streets. Whatever is happening at the parties we know, we read the streets very well. Whatever the street is calling for, that is what they will get”.

Says Terminal DG…”I have signed contracts, paperwork, I’ll be getting paid and I’ll get some complimentary passes for my crew and promotion as a Mandeville artist”. For those who don’t know, Terminal DG travels to Jamaica at least six times a year, working, marketing, branding, supporting the local Mandeville community and yes – engaged for live performances. States Terminal DG – “They (Supreme Promotions) first wanted to put me on as some Canadian act, but mi nuh tek box or kick, a Mandeville people support me”.

It is actually fair to say that Terminal DG may be more popular in Mandeville, Jamaica and surrounding areas than he is here in Canada. There are so many obstacles in the way when it comes to Canadian Artistes succeeding. States Terminal DG – “Canadian people don’t support me, just you (Ron Nelson) and a small handful of radio announcers; Richard (Banton) & Delroy (G.) – CHRY 105.5 FM and L3 (Magazine) – a dem mi rate”.

In Yaad, the story is a little different…Terminal DG is a ‘rising star’ who enjoys regular airplay of his handful of tunes by some of Jamaica’s hottest DJ’s – Boom Boom, Foota Hype, Andre Fowl, DJ Kenny, Quick Cook and the list goes on; these are just some of his biggest supporters. Add to the list, Radio DJ Ron Mochette – Irie FM who uses Terminal’s “Touch Di Road Hard” as a theme song for the “roll out the truck” promotion.

Besides, this will be Terminal’s third Sting appearance, having already performed in 2009 (ReggaeMania.com reminded Terminal DG of his 2009 Sting appearance, where he appeared struck by stage fright with a shortened performance of less than ninety seconds before making a premature exit from the stage). Says Terminal DG…”That year mi only have 2 songs, “Zinc Shop” and a next song on a faster tempo riddim. There was little rehearsal time for me to work with the band previous to the show. When mi mek mi entrance, the bandman dem perform di wrong track – I was DJ’ing slow and they were playing fast. Yeah, I decided to walk off because they had messed me up. The following year, I hired the band independently, spend mi own money to rehearse on mi own time – everything was perfect”.

Terminal DG also performed in 2010 but passed on a 2011 invitation, in part because the promoter could not secure his picture on the event flyer. Says Terminal DG…”I never knew Laing would ever want me back on Sting, but, I got a call from Fabo (Fabian Hanson/Vibes Promotion) who was paring in Yaad with Laing. He said Laing wanted to talk to me. I was humbled, in the past, I contacted Laing, now Laing is contacting me. We met up at a Beenie Man show a short time after and Laing said, “Everything Dark!”. He had seen my impact in Yaad, recognized my songs and my “Glasses Dark”- Everything Dark brand. Add it all up and Laing thought that I would be a good fit for Sting”.

This year’s Sting line up is expected to include the likes of Tommy Lee (Headliner), Bounty Killer (Headliner), Ninja Man, Kiprich, Mavado, Popcaan, Khago, Aidonia and Terminal DG among others. Sting has always been known for their ‘artiste’ clashes – “clashes are good for business” says Isaiah and in return, “a big Sting is energizing to Dancehall”. Some notable Sting clashes from the past…Ninja Man vs Shabba Ranks (1990), Ninja Man vs Super Cat (1991), Merciless vs Beenie Man/Bounty Killer/Ninja Man (2000), Vybz Kartel vs Mavado (2008) and Merciless vs Kiprich (2011). The numbers don’t lie – expect 25,000 – 30,000 for this year’s fest.

As far as this year’s Sting is concerned, Terminal says…”I feel I’ll go this year with confidence. My songs have been playing over a year and a half in Yaad, they are now recognized. Jamaica knows my theme songs, “It Nuh Easy”, “Mi Nuh Walkover”, “Gal Surround Me Like Zero”, “Flyer”, “Entrance” and “Glasses Dark”. “Touch Di Road Hard Hard Hard” is a song people can relate to – mi live inna Canada yes, but, based on the feedback I get and what I see, my songs motivate them (Jamaicans). I feel I’ll work harder this year, I know who I am, a DJ, not for the glamour, fame, girls or money – all of those things are just a bonus for me. Mi nah let it get to mi head, mi jus a gwaan do mi ting and a try humble wid it – but at the same time, me, myself, have to have some confidence too – I always underestimate myself”.

Shalli and Turbulence Team Up for “Lil Bad Girl”

Big Up Toronto’s own, Shalli!  Currently sporting her hit “I Fly” (featuring Tiwony), the talented and versatile Canadian female songstress has broadened her musical horizons by teaming up with Jamaica’s Turbulence for “Lil Bad Girl” – described by Shalli as “a positive message to all good girls

trying to be bad”.  Shalli and Turbulence struck up a friendship while touring the French Indies and decided to work together. After penning “Lil Bad Girl”, Shalli knew just who to call – Turbulence aka Mr. Notorious. The song is produced by Abbadon, who delivers his own unique style of Hip hop/Reggae fusion to this track. The music video, shot in Toronto + directed by Sir G.M. will be released early 2013.

Sandy Move Outta Di Way — T.O. Dancehall ready for action-packed week!

November 01 2012: Good thing Hurricane Sandy come and gone for nervous Toronto promoters and excited Reggae and Dancehall fans.  The BBM reports have been trickling in as flights arrive in the city from Jamaica and the U.S.A. with celebrities such as Marcia Griffiths, ZJ Liquid, Boom Boom & Tony

Matterhorn (here last Sunday) and Stone Love as the weekend arrives and the nasty fall weather starts settling in.  ZJ Liquid (flying in today) is scheduled to perform at Taj Banquet Hall for the Blazer & Jeans event this coming Saturday alongside DJ Absolute, who flies in tomorrow after receiving his Visa.  Selector Bill Cosby has apparently touched ground as well, here to represent Jamaica’s Stone Love Sound at the Guvernment tomorrow night (Friday) for When Dance Did Nice.  Marcia Griffiths is also in town (I got a blast advertising Marcia in the studio voicing dub plates) this Friday to celebrate His Majesty’s Coronation at the JCA alongside DJ’s Twelve Tribe Sound, Soul-To-Soul, Afrikan Starr, Delroy G, King David and Puggy Simeon as well as performers Iley Dred, Jay Douglas, Tasha T., King Ujah, Donna Makeda, Fire Lion, Empress Devine, Jah Kettle and Gemini.  She’ll also perform this Saturday with Ammoye in Niagara Falls.  Chuck Fenda passes through mid-month on a mini Canadian Tour and a stage show schedule sees I-Wayne and Turbulance in concert with Afrikan Starr around the same time too.  Gyptian arrives at the end of the month.   Tings get heat up!

Reggaetown Radio | Saturdays 10am – 1pm

Hosted by DJ Chris Dubbs and Fine China every Saturday from 10am – 1pm, this engaging show bridges the gap between old school and new generation Reggae.  Reggaetown is a space where reggae music and reggae culture intersect…an audio environment where the sweetest ska, the hardest dancehall, the most conscious culture, and the deepest foundation all dwell, in recognition of this dynamic genre of music. It is radio program where like-minded reggae enthusiasts can come together to listen, meditate, discuss, and enjoy the soul of Jamaica’s heritage to the heartbeat of the riddim.

Reggaetown is a place where music reigns supreme, and we strive to understand, promote, and celebrate the fine elements of this art form. Essentially, we are reggae…we are passionate about reggae, and we live, therefore, in Reggaetown.

King Addies wins Global Clash + Soul Supreme walks out of Tune-Fi-Tune

December 09th 2012: Congratulations to King Addies! – winner of Global Clash 12.08.12 (Brooklyn, NY) – featuring Heavy Hammer (Italy) vs. Soul Supreme (USA) vs. King Klepto (Canada) vs. Madd Squad (Jamaica) vs. Risky Dise (Japan) vs. King Addies (USA) and hosted by Bobby Konders from

Hot 97 FM.  ReggaeMania.com also congratulates our own King Klepto who was the final sound to be eliminated before ‘tune fi tune’.

In the ‘tune fi tune’ finals (King Addies vs. Soul Supreme), Soul Supreme jumped ahead for a 2 – 0 lead, but, Addies came back winning the next three rounds (Addies 3 – Soul Supreme 2).  Soul Supreme won the next round to tie things up 3 – 3.  Addies then took a 4 – 3 lead and that’s when Soul Supreme ‘defaulted’ (upset with the scoring – feeling that they had been ‘robbed’ three rounds in a row) and walked out of the clash.  The title and trophy went to King Addies.

As for Canada’s King Klepto, we were not there, but, peep some of the comments that were left on Irish & Chin’s website.  Garfield Bourne aka Chin gave Polly a rave review.  Here’s an excerpt from his post dated Monday December 10th on IrishAndChin.com.

“Having a strong MC can be a very valuable asset in a sound clash.  At times, it’s the only factor that aids a competing  sound armed with limited dubs.  This fact held true for Canada’s King Klepto at Global Clash.

It’s quite possible that Klepto’s MC, Polly Famous is within the top 3 best young MCs in North America.  “Di yute baddd!”  His speeches hit hard and he has No fear of his opponents.

Polly did not bring home the gold on Saturday, nevertheless, he brought home a large fan base.  In fact, he stood strong among all the other MCs on the event and out-classed them ALL night.

He stands as a major value to his team.  His talents easily cover up the fact that King Klepto’s dub box may be very limited.

Polly’s style is similar to that of Panther’s.  He keeps you entertained by his facial expressions and speeches.

He’s good at commanding attention from his audience and knows how to weaken the impact of his contenders’, musically.

The only reason why King Klepto lost this recent clash is because they seem to have ran out of dubs.  Big up Polly for a job well done!”

Grammy Nominees Announced for ‘Best Reggae Album’ Category

December 10th 2012:There were fifty-three entries for the Best Reggae Album – only five made the cut.  The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards Nominees for Best Reggae Album are…

Rebirth
Jimmy Cliff]

[UMe/Sunpower
Miracle
The Original Wailers[MRG Recordings]

Tomahawk Technique
Sean Paul[VP/Atlantic]

New Legend – Jamaica 50th Edition
Sly & Robbie & The Jam Masters[Mondo Tunes]

Reggae Got Soul: Unplugged On Strawberry Hill
Toots And The Maytals[Metropolis Recordings]

In the Music Industry, winning a GRAMMY is the highest honour.  Last year’s GRAMMY Award winner for Best Reggae Album went to Stephen Marley for “Revelation Pt 1: The Root Of Life”.  In 2010, the award went to Buju Banton for his “Before The Dawn” album – released after he was incarcerated.

ReggaeMania.com salutes all of the GRAMMY nominees and even those who didn’t make the shortlist, including fine albums released by Busy Signal, Konshens,Vybz Kartel, I-Octane and Jah Cure.  Sean Paul’s nomination is considered a mystery to some as his “Tomahawk Technique” LP was mediocre at best.  More than likely, his presence was to make-up for the fact that there was no true representation of a Dancehall DJ on the list.

Looking back, it was the Dancehall DJ’s who had the best year, not any of the artists chosen – this is by no means meant to disrespect those artists that were nominated.  This leads me to question – what is the criteria for being nominated for a GRAMMY? and who qualifies to sit on the board made up of Recording Academy members? – How are they chosen?

I don’t believe that the musical contributions of the five nominees are more superior than the rest of the entries.  That being said, it’s fair to say politics might play a role in this whole process as it often does pre and post award shows.  In the end, it’s nice to be acknowledged – being nominated is a privilege.  The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 10, 2013 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  The show will be broadcast on CBS at 8 PM.

Toronto welcomes CEEN to Rogers Cable Channel 684

December 06th 2012: Canada welcomes CEEN Television (Caribbean Entertainment Everyday Network, pronounced “seen”) to the Toronto market.  The Jamaican Television Subscription Network made its Toronto premiere on the evening of Thursday November 29th on the Rogers Cable TV Network on

Channel 684.

CEEN currently airs a popular one-hour daily Caribbean News Program covering news from across the region and also features international sports & special event coverage, popular and exclusive music videos, talk shows, news magazine programs, dramas and three early morning shows.  Says Chris Telfer – Business Development Manager, “You get a comprehensive mix of real programming that people will enjoy”.

CEEN Toronto has been in the works for about a year and a half.  After polling our city in the research stage of CEEN Toronto, it was clear what Canadians wanted.  States Chris Telfer, “People here (in Toronto) were interested in news, real time as it happens, from back home”.

CEEN is now available free for Rogers Cable subscribers until February 2013, after which it will cost $7 per month to subscribe.  According to Chris Telfer, CEEN will offer “exclusive 24hr a day programming from around the Caribbean”. The Jamaican-based CEEN Network subscription channel recently began airing on Cable Vision in New York, and has plans to expand to other markets including Florida and the U.K.  States Chris Telfer, “It’s (CEEN) ‘international’, so we need to make sure that everyone is represented”.  When asked if CEEN Canada had any plans for incorporating local Canadian-based programming, states Chris Telfer, “Yes, we will consider putting local programming on CEEN“.

So how much Reggae will we get on CEEN?  Seeing Busy Signal being interviewed with his mom (broadcast this past weekend) was a good look – if that’s any indication of what’s to come, it’s a great start.  ReggaeMania.com wishes CEEN great success in Toronto.

Delly Ranx Shares ‘The Next Chapter’ With The World!

December 2012: Dancehall and Reggae veteran Delly Ranx has released his music video for “The Next Chapter” and fans can’t get enough.  Shot entirely on location in Kingston, Jamaica, Delly teamed with Terminal 4 Media to create a story depicting various stages of Delly’s life.  With an opening scene of a

book’s pages turning, the video takes a first look at the artist speaking with a humorous impersonation of Larry King whom Delly calls ‘Harry King’, then throws back to recording sessions in the studio.

Exercising creativity, Terminal 4 Media then flashes to a family seemingly going through difficulties which is juxtaposed by a decision the male character must make: a life of fast money, or a life honoring Mommy.  “We thought it would be good to not only show off Delly, but show off a real life scenario that everyone can relate to.  We all face difficulties in some way or another, so this was important for us to show”.

An exclusive first peak of the video was shared with Delly’s closest friends and family who were so excited about the video’s outcome, Terminal 4 Media’s YouTube channel received an unprecedented number of hits in a short period of time.  “Everyone who’s seen the video say we did a great job and that fills me with pride” said Delly from his studio in Orlando.  “We want the fans to connect to the video and they have so I’m pleased”.

“The Next Chapter” is the lead song from Delly Ranx’s newest studio album of the same name which was released in July of 2012.  The song is currently topping charts in North America, Europe and the artists home of Jamaica.  The music video acts as the eyes and ears of his fans.  The self reflective song, which discusses changes in the artists personal and professional life, embraces a new path and direction.  Transitioning from yesterday to today, Delly includes fans on the newest chapter of his journey.  The song is an international success.  The 18 track disc is available on all major digital retail outlets including iTunes and Amazon.  Physical format discs are available via www.dellyranx.com.

Reggae Singjay Eek-A-Mouse Deported – Facing Extradition

December 2012: Reggae artist Ripton J. Hylton, known as “Eek-A-Mouse,” has been deported from Paraguay and faces extradition to North Carolina on four year old charges, police say. Kill Devil Hills police reported that Hylton had left the country sometime after his arrest back in August 2008, when he was charged with first degree kidnapping, second degree rape and possession of cocaine.  According to

police reports, a 23 year old woman was held against her will by Eek-A-Mouse at a motel, but, Eek-A-Mouse denies all charges and has said he is innocent.

In 2010, Hylton missed a court date in Dare County after his flight was cancelled due to volcanic ash.  His lawyer said the absence was not intentional, but, Superior Court Judge Jerry Tillett issued a warrant for Hylton’s arrest with a $1 million dollar bond for failure to appear – “It was difficult for me to understand why the judge thought this was willful,” stated Eek-A-Mouse after his motion to continue the case for sixty days was denied. As of  Thursday, police said, Hylton was in custody awaiting extradition to North Carolina from Florida.  He was located in Paraguay November 21 without a proper visa and subsequently deported.

Advertising on ReggaeMania.com - The Front Page Special

Why Advertise on ReggaeMania.com? There are so many reasons why it makes sense for promoters and urban businesses and services to advertise on ReggaeMania.com. If you promote Reggae dances and stage shows in the Toronto (Canada) and/or international markets, then ReggaeMania.com is the

RM LOGO

place for you to post your event Flyers, Radio Commercials, Banners and Video Ads.

Our Front Page Special (ReggaeMania.com Home Page) is by far our best package; it’s the first place people land on when visiting ReggaeMania. We put your Flyer(s) on the Front Page (the most visited) of ReggaeMania.com and YOU get amazing results!  This special package includes;

A. The Article;
An article for your Advertising is created and placed on our Front Page. If your advertising features an Event (dance/concert etc.), the Flyer is automated to also appear in the ReggaeMania.com “Events” Section.  At ReggaeMania.com, every time we post a flyer, the flyer is also re-broadcast on our Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts, increasing the range of your promotional campaign.  More importantly, when a visitor clicks on the Article headline Title (or adjoining headline graphic), it takes them to your Advertising Page where they can see all campaign elements including;

a;  your Flyer(s) and Poster(s)
b;  a detailed Text Listing of Your Event/Business/Service (info from your flyer)
c;  an embedded YouTube Video Advertising with Graphics and Play Button
d;  an embedded and clickable Radio Commercial Link with Play/Pause Button
e;  any Press Release or write-up for your Event, Business, Service
f;  options for visitors to share your event on various social networks

Advertisers please note; when the article is posted, it appears as the 1st article on the website (top position), but over time as new content is placed, this article is pushed down lower on the page. But don’t worry; there are two other Front Page locations for your Ad placement.

B. The Slider;
The biggest advertising space utilized on our ReggaeMania.com Front Page sits prominently at the very top of our website – we call it our Slider, and it is often the first Ad people notice when first landing on the ReggaeMania.com.  This is the second space on the Front Page where your Ad appears, and your flyer appears randomly in Rotation (8 second intervals) with other paid advertisements while visitors sit on the Front Page.  Just like with the previously mentioned Article, when a visitor clicks on the Slider Advertisement, they are taken to your Advertising Page where they can see all of the campaign elements mentioned above;

Graphic Designers please note – the size for our Slider Ads are 630 pixels width x 280 pixels height.  But don’t worry; we create the Slider Ad for you (cropped from your campaign poster) if you don’t already have one already designed.

C. The third area of ReggaeMania.com for your Flyer Placement is what we call our Business Card section, the area that appears on the far Right Side of the ReggaeMania.com Home Page.  This is where you will see, chronologically ordered (top to bottom), what appears to be a number of attractive business-card sized Ads.  There are also two business card slots beneath the previously mentioned Slider. These Ads are very powerful when it comes to branding your Event, Business or Service chiefly because they ‘travel’ with the visitor who may have left the Front Page to visit other Pages on the site.  Just like with the previously mentioned Article, when a visitor clicks on your Business Card, they are taken to your Advertising Home Page where they can see all of the campaign elements mentioned above.

Graphic Designers please note – the size for our Business Card Ads are 300 pixels width x 200 pixels height (300 x 190 pixels for Business Cards below Slider). But don’t worry; we create the Slider Ad for you (cropped from your campaign poster) if you don’t already have one designed.

D. Another attractive area on the ReggaeMania.com Home Page for Promoters, Businesses, and Services to Advertise is the Home Page Video prominently displayed beneath the two Business Card Ads under the Slider and slightly above the first Article.  This area is not traditionally sold with the Front Page Special, and is chiefly designed for Recording Artists who want to advertise their new Videos or EPKs. However, if a promoter or business has content for the Video section that will compliment their campaign; this is a negotiable area for increased advertisement.

The Early-Bird Advantage:
All of the above-mentioned packages work best for early-birds; a fixed price allows a Flyer to be posted anywhere for a maximum 3 months! Basically, the earlier an Advertisers get more for their money by posting advertisements early.  Flyers and additional content can be updated later for no additional costs from our end.
