BLACK ICE | DJ Ron Nelson 4-Song EP
DJ Ron Nelson Releases “BLACK ICE” — A Bold 2026 EP Blending Reggae, Rap, and Social Commentary
Toronto, Canada – 2026 – Canadian DJ, cultural pioneer, and radio legend DJ Ron Nelson has released BLACK ICE (Peace Posse Records) , a four-song, six-track EP created in the spirit of Black History Month 2026 and dedicated to the fans who have supported his decades-long contribution to music and culture.
Produced entirely by DJ Scam, BLACK ICE merges reggae, rap, and dancehall influences into a deeply personal and socially aware body of work. Two of the EP’s tracks feature guest artist Tréson of Human Rights, whose melodic vocal presence adds contrast and emotional depth to Ron Nelson’s signature “reality rap” delivery.
Although it appears as the fourth track on the EP, the early standout and most talked-about release is “Dem Belly Full,” a reinterpretation of the 1974 classic “Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)” by Bob Marley & The Wailers. Rather than replicate the original, DJ Ron Nelson and Tréson reimagine it through a stripped-down, skeletal cycled beat that places lyrical message and social commentary at the forefront. The result is a hybrid sound that fuses reggae’s cultural gravity with contemporary rap expression. Tréson’s rich vocals and Nelson’s grounded, reality-based verses create a version that resists easy categorization while honoring the spirit of the source material.
The EP opens with “I Need Love,” featuring DJ Ron Nelson and Tréson over the same foundational rhythm heard in “Dem Belly Full,” but presented as a completely original composition. With a new hook and distinct lyrical direction, the track stands independently, demonstrating creative ownership while maintaining thematic cohesion within the project.
“No More” follows as one of the most personal songs on the release. A reflective and emotionally raw life-story, the track explores frustration, struggle, and lived experience through both singing and rap performance. The rap segment is presented in three versions, including a clean radio edit and a raw version, underscoring Nelson’s commitment to authenticity across formats.
“Deadbeat Dad” delivers pointed social commentary with a subtle dancehall twist layered over a primarily rap-driven structure. Satirical yet direct, the song addresses absent fathers and the broader impact on families and communities, continuing Nelson’s tradition of using music as both expression and examination.
Beneath the surface, BLACK ICE draws heavily from DJ Ron Nelson’s own life experiences. Themes of isolation, anxiety, underemployment, emotional struggle, and resilience inform the songwriting throughout the project. For Nelson, music remains both therapy and testimony — a space where personal reflection meets cultural dialogue. The EP aims not only to entertain, but to “edutain,” a philosophy that has defined his voice throughout his career.
BLACK ICE marks DJ Ron Nelson’s first official release of 2026 and sets the tone for a year of continued creative output. The EP is available for purchase on iTunes, streaming on all major digital platforms, and select tracks are available for free download at DJRonNelson.com.
