CHIN-FM was a learning experience for me, but it was nice to have a stint there. Denise Jones (RIP) called me one day and was excited to offer me the opportunity to rebound on the air after CKLN had gone off the air. She also told me that Spex was her first choice but denied the opportunity. After months of giving it a try, the show just didn’t work, not on that station. CHIN’s programming format was multi-cultural and multi-language. Shows there served a variety of communities and ethnic groups and audiences would change over every two hours. This was just one factor why it was virtually impossible to get loyalty from listeners, same case when Mark and Jem went to 106.5 which had a primary Native agenda. Eventually our show was knocked out of it’s spot by an Indian show playing Indian music and catering to Indian culture where radio is still a big thing despite the onslaught of social media so advertisers follow.
