WHO'S THE IG BITCH NOW?

I have been criticized for being an ‘Instagram’ bitch!!  My dearest friends and closest allies have all expressed how much my posts have meant to them, especially during two years of pandemic time, but then they criticize me for ‘giving’ it all to IG for ‘free’, knowing IG will never pay me for my contributions, as that is the price you pay for having real estate on their free and powerful online platform. These same people, friends and IG fans who actually read my posts, often try to convince me that writing a book would be a good and more suitable substitute.

But guess what, it is chiefly because of my @djronnelson IG experience why I saw value in my writings and posts. And it is because of the response from the posts that I read in the comments, why I have gotten to recognize that people appreciate my brand and the works that I have contributed to the Canadian hip-hop and dancehall-reggae industry. I wouldn’t have known my own value if it wasn’t for my IG, and the wonderful, honest and inspiring comments and feedback that I get from my wonderful IG followers, critics and fans.

The truth is – while I have worked passionately, pioneering and put in my time as a promotional mover and shaker, I was doing it humbly without knowing that I was creating history while doing so. Many of us never kept our artifacts from the 80’s and 90’s era where I was a dominant force. Not yet in the smart-phone comfort zone, we never took videos and photographs that would achieve our events, momentous moments and special achievements. Some of use are lucky if we can even find flyers, posters and newspaper-magazine articles from these times.

As people get older, archives, flyers, posters, photographs, videos, stories; all these elements offer interesting thoughts and perspectives, stimulate tingling nostalgic senses, and are important triggers and symbols of a time that they may have lived, experienced and appreciated.

In the coming days, I will be installing a ‘testimonial’ page so people can leave comments about their experience, memories and stories they may have about the Canada’s old school days, especially those were impacted by the works of Ron Nelson Productions.

Maybe you’ve been to a Ron Nelson Production concert or sound clash, maybe you witnessed Ron Nelson dee-jaying or performing live, maybe you were a fan of CKLN 88.1 FM, perhaps you were an artist recording in Apache Studios, or you were featured in ReggaeMania Magazine. Be aware, when I do write that book, I may want to use extracts from testimonials left here. Thank you in advance for sharing your stories and comments.
